Police immediately released their first statement about their investigation: “The Turpin family has admitted to the police their actions. We have opened charges against them for child abuse. We can’t divulge any details of the case at this time as we have yet to interview all the children.” The Turpin Family: The Worst American Family Ever

The tragedy did not end when six of the Turpin children were returned to their parents without the additional charges against them—the children are now living with a caseworker in Riverside County, where they were eventually taken from the house—but it did not end with the house and the backyard being cleared out by a Coroner’s team. The Turpin Family: The Worst American Family Ever

The authorities still believe that someone saved one of the children from being put into the yard by the Turpin kids.

“The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has been notified of the disappearance of a Turpin child, which is believed to be healthy,” said the news release from the sheriff’s office, just before midnight on January 21. “The child is being cared for at a location off-site.”

This news occurred more than two weeks after the family was reported missing, when the California Highway Patrol said its deputies had received a call from a cousin who was concerned for the Turpin children. “The child is crying because he hasn’t seen his family in quite some time,” said the cousin who reported the family missing. The Turpin Family: The Worst American Family Ever

A child who can’t be named for safety reasons was also recorded pleading with the sheriff’s office.

“Please, please please let us go home!” said the kid. “Please! Let us go home!”

It is unknown if any of the girl children have been dropped off, or if they are still missing.

One of the saddest stories from the Turpin ordeal comes from one of the youngest children who was only 3 at the time that the Turpin family was captured. The child’s father, Scott, took to his Facebook page this week and provided a video of himself kissing his daughter, written in the same grim prose he also used earlier this month.

He also took to his Facebook page with a post from the day that the Children’s Fund for California, which Scott shares in his name, tweeted out news of the horrific arrest.

Family members say that four of the six children have been receiving occupational therapy for autism spectrum disorder and that the children received extensive psychological treatment for abuse at home. Some of the three adults with disabilities have been given food and therapeutic therapy for “defective children,” while others have been regularly quarantined at home to prevent infections. The Turpin Family: The Worst American Family Ever
